What is Cat Breading?

Cat breading is the practice of cutting a hole in a slice of bread and placing it around a cat’s head. When done correctly, the cat ends up looking like a little lion with a “mane” of bread. The humor of this look is heightened by the fact that cats generally dislike looking foolish. Just as funny is the rare cat who actually enjoys sporting his/her bread as a fashion accessory.

Cat breading is an “Internet meme” that has been gathering momentum for quite some time. At the beginning of February 2012, the meme gathered critical mass and caught the attention of mainstream media. On January 31, 2012, Gawker.com published a widely-read story on cat breading. This was quickly followed by segments on The Colbert Report and Jimmy Kimmel Live. That’s all it takes to become an Internet meme!

Cat Breading iPhone App Giveaway

It’s pretty hard to look at cat breading pics without wanting to do some breading yourself. For those who have cats this usually isn’t a problem. But some unfortunate folks with especially bread-resistant cats just can’t get the cat and bread in one place long enough to do the deed.

This was the situation Sal’s girlfriend found herself in earlier this month. Sal wanted to satisfy her breading desire so much that for Valentine’s day he coded her a cat breading iPhone app. Here’s what he wrote us:

 

My girlfriend told me about breading and how she couldn’t get the cats to sit still long enough to bread them. I decided that for Valentine’s Day I would make her an iPhone app to let her virtually bread them. Now the app is available for anyone to use.
